Registration for this year’s WorldSkills UK Competitions is open from 19 April – 14 May, with over 60 different skills competitions available for students and apprentices to enter.

WorldSkills UK is an independent charity and a partnership between employers, education and governments. The skills competition development programme provides colleges, independent training providers and employers with a proven method of upskilling and developing young people

The competitions range from skills in digital, engineering and construction through to health, hospitality and lifestyle and are free to enter. There are also 10 Foundation Skills competitions on offer, which are aimed at learners with special educational needs and disabilities, additional learning needs, or who need additional support for learning.

Those who excel in the National Qualifiers will be invited to take part in the National Finals, which will take place in November across the UK, with the winners crowned the UK’s best in their chosen skill at a national celebration event. We will also be working with a national mainstream media partner who will provide a national platform to celebrate the finalists.

ENTRY CRITERIA

  • This is an individual competition
  • There is no age limit for Regional or National Competitions
  • The competition is intended for those studying, training and/or working in the aircraft maintenance Industry.
  • The competition is based on the standards attained by trainees who are studying or enrolled on a level 3 programme or who have achieved a level 3 qualification in the last 12 months or who have gained there EASA Part 66 Qualification. (Up to level 3 for England, Northern Ireland and Wales, up to level 6 for Scotland or up to five years’ experience in a working environment).

WorldSkills UK’s competition-based development programme is designed by industry experts and enhances practical skills and knowledge by assessing an individual’s personal, technical and employability attributes against set criteria in a competitive timed environment.

The programme has a real impact, with 90% of previous entrants saying their career progression improved after taking part and 86% stated their personal and employability skills had improved. Helping students and apprentices to develop the high-quality skills employers need will also help to combat the economic impact of Covid-19 in the UK.
