ADS would like to gauge levels of interest in joining the United Kingdom Pavilion at the Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition 2025: the region's premier commercial maritime and naval defence exposition, connecting Australian and international defence, industry, government, and academia.
The three-day event is a platform for engagement and incorporates an international industry exhibition, specialist conference program featuring presentations and symposia from leading maritime institutions and networking opportunities.
Indo Pacific is strongly supported by the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Government Department of Defence and the New South Wales State Government.
Market Insight
The UK and Australia have a significant and comprehensive relationship underpinned by shared heritage, common values, strong people-to-people links, closely aligned strategic outlook and interests, and substantial trade and investment links.
AUKUS Trilateral Defence and Security Agreement
The AUKUS programme is the key area of defence collaboration between the UK and Australia, the submarine programme under AUKUS Pillar I projected to create 7,000 new jobs in the UK and involve over 21,000 people across the SSN-AUKUS programmes within the UK supply chain.
By the early 2040s, Australia will deploy a submarine capability co-designed with the United Kingdom. The initial construction will take place in the UK, with final assembly occurring in Australian shipyards in collaboration with UK industry partners.
In addition, AUKUS Pillar IIs framework on advanced capabilities across:
- Cyber
- AI
- Quantum
- Undersea capability
- Hypersonic and counter-hypersonics
- Electronic warfare
- Deep space radar
Milestone in Defence Trade Relations
Following landmark export control changes, an Open General Licence has been issued for AUKUS nations, enabling the AUKUS partners to work closely together to develop next-generation technologies. It is estimated that the reforms - which will lift certain export controls and restrictions on technology sharing - will cover up to £500 million of UK defence exports each year and billions of dollars of trade across all three nations. These changes will lift license requirements for the export and sharing of certain defence products, including advanced capabilities, technical data, and defence services.
Non-AUKUS Opportunities
Aside from AUKUS Opportunities, the licence-built BAE Type 21 Frigate, known as the Hunter Class in the RAN, presents an opportunity for UK capability in the supply chain, with much of the ship being built in the UK before final assemble in Australia. Looking further into the future, it is likely that the UK and Australia will see further collaboration on surface combatants as both the RN and RAN look towards Destroyer replacement programmes in the coming years. Lastly, G2G Ministerial Consultations have expressed a desire to enhance cooperation in amphibious and littoral operations, creating potential opportunity for interoperability capabilities.
